15 February, 2008 (13:46) | Apache, MySQL, Php | By: clive

You want to install Apache, MySQL and PhP but are put off by the hassle of setting them all up. Don’t worry, here’s a simple way of doing it. Just download a file, run it to install, follow the instructions and everything is done for you. No settings to change, no nothing. Couldn’t be simpler.

WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache, PHP and the MySQL database. It also comes with PHPMyAdmin and SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases.

WampServer installs automatically (installer), and its usage is very intuitive. You will be able to tune your server without even touching the setting files.

WampServer is the only packaged solution that will allow you to reproduce your production server. Once WampServer is installed, you have the possibility to add as many Apache, MySQL and PHP releases as you want.

You can download it here. Her’s the WampServer homepage.

Here’s a quick and easy step-by-step tutorial of how to install it

What Is PHP? And Why Do You Need It?

What Is PHP? And Why Do You Need It?
By Keith Smith

What is PHP? If you own a website or need a website built, you might
want to know the answer to that question.

PHP is a popular and widely used programming language used for website
development. PHP stands for PHP:Hypertext Preprocessor.

Consider - in 1999 it is estimated there were over 100,000 websites
using PHP to enhance their own website. Today, there are over 1,000,000 websites using PHP.

In the early years of the Internet, most sites were static text pages.
As the Internet evolved, people wanted websites with more interactive functionality, such as guest books and contact forms. PHP was the perfect
tool and still is today.

PHP is a very robust and mature programming language. It was first released in 1995 and has grown to become one of the preferred languages for website
development. It runs server side and is very secure.

As a matter of fact, most hosting companies provide PHP with their
hosting packages.

If you need an interactive website, with features like guest books and
contact forms, you can learn PHP programming yourself, buy a website package, or hire a Professional PHP Programmer.

Most people do not have the time to learn a programming language. One
recent client purchased a do-it-yourself website kit from a large
domain re-seller. These kits, though offering basic websites that can
work for some people, have little functionality and offer limited
features. After struggling with it, this client hired me to build his
website. After completion, he now has a site that is beautiful and has
great functionality and interactive features his clients want. His website is far beyond what a website-kit could have ever provided. The difference PHP!

Professional PHP Programming

Keith began his programming career over 20 years ago. In 1999 he became
proficient in HTML and PERL programming languages. Since that time, he
has been helping businesses and individuals build websites and over the
past year has also assisted clients in Internet marketing and search
engine optimization. This combination has allowed Keith to move beyond
only website development to consulting with clients in using the
Internet to their success. Keith is a trusted, professional PHP
programmer.
